Dilys Van Der Vaart (Derek)

Dilys was born to an aristocratic family in the Nilfgaard vassal state of Ebbing. She grew up on the family estate. She was close to her uncle, Count Bryn, and treasures a necklace he gave her. The family estates were fertile and her father grew a large range of crops with little regard for whether they were strictly legal. Dilys gained some knowledge of alchemy through the family business. It was while Dilys was studying at the academy to become a doctor that the authorities arrested her parents and confiscated the family estates.

Dilys has five siblings, three brothers and two sisters. Her older brothers, Elis and Garth were arrested with her parents. Elis hates Dilys and resents her for escaping the arrests. Garth has descended into depression following the arrest. Her older sister, Cari, has a kind personality and looks up to Dilys for her medical achievements, whereas her younger brother Morgan is jealous of her achievements. Her younger sister, Lili, is very quiet and shy because of her childhood experiences.

Dilys learned Nordling during her training. Since completing her training, Dilys has wandered throughout the lands, moving from job to job, trying to make ends meet. She worked for a time with a bandit gang but left them after their leader started making unwanted advances. He felt slighted at the rejection and would take an opportunity for revenge. She also travelled for a while with Erica, a bounty hunter and formed a friendship but split when Erica decided to seek her fortune beyond the boundaries.
