Judge Elso's journal - Trip to titan

After we had spoken to the quartermaster and requested suitable equipment for the expected hazards we set off for Titan. I was apprehensive about the way the team would perform and used my time on the 7 day trip to evaluate my new team and get them settled in to knowing me.

On route we had several updates on the situation in Titan with the following effect. 4 inmates, including Kent , had broken out during a riot. These 4 then came back and raided the supply store taking provisions and a laser rifle. During the raid one had been killed and it was reported that Karl had to be assisted from the scene by his comrades with a serious leg injury.

The Prison warden informed the squad that he believed they were hidden out to the north of the facility but did not have the manpower to mount an expedition to rout them out and explained that in general escapees come back as they run out of supplies and have nowhere to go. I agreed to take the squad out as we needed to get some answers from Kent as a matter of urgency. I opted for the robo mules as a transport as they would cope with the rough terrain to the north better and I had confidence that my squad could deal with the threat of the escaped convicts.

After a refreshing 20 mins in the sleep machines the RoboMules and our extra equipment was ready to go.

Looking at the terrain I decided with the team that we should scout the crater 2K to the north. As the convicts had taken some explosive caps I employed a standard 5m spread in the team position, in accordance with the our training for such situations, for the descent into the crater. During the descent into the crater we encountered an explosive trap. Judge Bullet despatched this trap efficiently. Both my Judge Bullet and myself then experienced a Psionic vision that did not affect Judge Stotz as she was immune to Psionic powers. Expecting now to find the escaped convicts close we spotted Stolone armed with explosive charges and spear. The team apprehended him and after a short questioning to reveal the location of the others he was sentenced to death. Judge Bullet worked out that we could track the convicts from the bracelets they had partially disabled by adjusting the frequency on the radio locators we had. I will note his potential to Tech div on our return.

We encountered convict Mungo in a valley path on the way to the cave. He had chosen a good ambush point playing to his advantage of strength and speed. But my team spotted it and while I pretended to look for tracks both Judge Stotz and Judge Bullet opened fire and flushed him out. I will discuss round selection with Judge Bullet later as Rubber Ricochet was not appropriate for this combat. Convict Mungo was soon dispatched.

Convict Kent was found, as we were told, in a cave in the mountains to the North West. With the advantage of numbers I instructed the squad to rush him. This worked well and we took little injuries in the process. Kent chose to take his own life and detonated an explosive cap as we were closing in. The truth serum produced some more details to the plan to kill Chief Judge McGruder.

We relayed the new information to the Justice department on the way back, but on our return were honoured to be asked by Chief Judge McGruder herself to continue the investigation and to take responsibility for spotting the perpetrators in their anticipated attempts to assassinate her the following day. Judge Trump will be back on duty for this and I will be pleased to have the extra eyes and ears but I have not served with or under him but if he performs as well as his team did under me then “Squad Trump won’t let you down Chief Judge McGruder”
